The Second
Weekend
After the success of the
first weekend, we met together as a team to pray and seek God about the second
weekend. He showed us the theme:
- Drawing Closer to God
- Moving on in God
- Taking Risks in God.
and gave us the
scripture:
Isa 61:1-3 The Spirit of the Sovereign LORD is on me,
because the LORD has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent
me to bind up the broken-hearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and
release from darkness for the prisoners, to proclaim the year of the LORD's
favour and the day of vengeance of our God, to comfort all who mourn, and
provide for those who grieve in Zion -- to bestow on them a crown of beauty
instead of ashes, the oil of gladness instead of mourning, and a garment of
praise instead of a spirit of despair. They will be called oaks of
righteousness, a planting of the LORD for the display of his splendour.
We met on 23 - 25 May
1997, and our quest speaker was Ceri Griffiths from Crayford Christian
Fellowship in Kent. Ceri has a powerful testimony about the goodness of God in
her life and the Lord used her ministry to unlock many situations in women's
lives to bring healing and deliverance.
Pat Botwright, took the
Saturday morning session: "I took a risk in God" and told us more about her
ministry to street children and orphans in Kisumu, Kenya and how she has
discovered the wonderful provision of God, both material, physical and
spiritual.
Seminars/workshops were
held on the Saturday afternoon:
- Going deeper into worship
- Going deeper into
intercession
- Towards emotional
wholeness
- How can I reach my
neighbour?
which challenged us to go
deeper into God, to trust him for healing, and inspired us to reach out to
others with the good news that Jesus loves them.
God challenged and
inspired us throughout the whole weekend, as the Holy Spirit moved amongst us.
There were many tears and a great deal of laughter, and one meeting ran into
another as we witnessed the verses of Isaiah 61:1-3 being fulfilled in our
midst.
