The Westminster Parliament passed the Abortion Act in 1967.
It stipulated certain requirements before abortion could be administered.
First, two registered medical practitioners would have to express their
opinions in good faith after considering
(a) Whether there was a risk to the life of the
pregnant woman.
(b) Whether there was the risk of injury to her or her
existing children's physical or mental health, greater than if the pregnancy
was terminated.
(c) Whether there was a substantial risk that if the
child was born it would suffer from such physical or mental abnormalities as to
be seriously handicapped.
