CLONING
Cloning is the precise duplication of an embryo to produce
two genetically identical individuals. It amounts to the artificial production
of a 'twin' to the cloned animal. While the technique can be used positively to
preserve endangered plant or animal species, cloning poses significant ethical
problems as it interferes with the divinely--ordained processes of
reproduction, and it compromises the uniqueness of divine creation. Also,
despite the fact that human cloning is illegal throughout the developed world,
this is clearly the ultimate goal of some current research.
