Comparing Pre & Post Pentecost Prophecy

CONTEMPORARY CHRISTIAN (NON-CANONICAL) PROPHECY

There is the inspiration and revelation, which give us the contemporary Christian prophetic ministry. This will not contradict the former.

This too is inspired by the Holy Spirit, operating as this study has sought to explain, but it is directed to contemporary situations, and is not for all time as is Holy Scripture, which it will never contradict.

'Prophecy will cease' (1 Cor.13:8) 'But the Word of the Lord abideth for ever (1 Peter 1:23).

There are some similarities between Old Testament and New Testament prophecy in that people feel that it is a burden on them until they can prophesy. The Wycliffe Bible Encyclopaedia (3) states:

'Prophecy in the Old Testament - a prophetic oracle or message to be delivered to the people was conceived of as a burden on the soul of the prophet until he could utter it.'

The one who prophesies speaks on behalf of another; that is he delivers a message from God.
