NUDITY IN PERSPECTIVE
Personal and family ablutions require nudity as do medical
examinations and surgical operations, and the reasons over-ride the element of
sexuality. Unfortunately of course there have been doctors who have abused
their positions in this respect.
One should differentiate between the appreciation of nudity
as true art and beauty, and the vulgar displays in films and advertisements
which are used to titillate the viewer or draw attention to the sale of a
certain product, (which often has no connection with sex anyway). In respect of
the latter, complaints from the public reached a new high at offensive
advertisements. There was a 24% increase.
What has happened to a society that has become so obsessed
with voyeurism? C.S. Lewis in his book Mere Christianity writes, "Suppose you
came to a country where you could fill a theatre by simply bringing on to the
stage a covered plate, which was slowly lifted for all to see just as the
lights were lowered, to reveal a mutton chop or a piece of bacon, would you not
think that something had gone wrong with their appetite for food?"
