Morality in Societies Around the World ...
WHAT ABOUT MORAL VALUES WITHOUT RELIGION?
It is sometimes argued that one does not need a
religious belief to have or practise moral values, and this is certainly true.
There are many people of differing ideologies and beliefs who have a very high
integrity in these matters. Their attitude however does raise some questions.
First, there is the problem as to which choices should be made. What is the
criterion? With individual choice it becomes arbitrary and self-determining and
could therefore be wrong, and secondly there is no guarantee of motivation or
help to maintain them.
